The Bracton Law Society encourages students to explore careers in all legal professions and our Bar Group Chair is responsible for all Bar-related events. The events taking place this year are focused to ensure that students have the knowledge, understanding and experience necessary to succeed at the Bar.
Throughout the year there will be various workshops with the aim of providing students with information regarding the reality of the profession. There will be workshops on the BPTC, BCAT and applications, including those for mini-pupillages and scholarships as well as mock interviews.
One of the main themes this year will be advocacy experience. There will be a series of workshops and an internal advocacy competition enabling students to gain the practical skills necessary for the Bar. These workshops will develop and expand the Bar Group with an emphasis on formulating both persuasive oral and written arguments. Students are also encouraged to participate in the debating tournament in the second term to improve upon their oral advocacy.
There will be the opportunity to meet a variety of barristers, visit Inns of Court and attend talks by practitioners. The Inns of Court host university dinners and students will have the opportunity to attend these dinners and network with like-minded peers and professionals in the field. Additionally, there will be visits to various courthouses, including the Supreme Court, to allow students to observe cases first hand.
