Welcome to Bracton Law Society!
Established 54 years ago and with well over 1,000 members, we are the largest academic society at the University of Exeter as well as one of the largest and most active law societies in the United Kingdom. Open to both non-law and law students, our principle focus is to help our members succeed in their pursuit of a legal career.
We have an exceptionally strong core offering, featuring mooting, debating, pro bono, multiple socials, an internal publication 'Obiter Dicta', careers events, and a group for aspiring barristers. We have grown from strength to strength in the past couple of years and are proud to offer 15 mooting competitions, including internal and international competitions, 7 pro bono projects, including the sought-after Prison Project, and 3 debating competitions.
Partnering with over 35 firms this year, we continue to provide our members with the very best opportunities, including exclusive BLS open days, on campus dinners and professional workshops and seminars, all aimed at making our members more employable and helping them to gain a deeper understanding of the profession.
Beyond our career offerings, BLS has three intramural sport teams: mixed touch rugby, football and netball for our budding sportspeople, as well as several informal socials throughout the year. However, in true BLS fashion, we are predominantly known for hosting the most impressive formal balls the university has to offer.
On behalf of the entire committee, I would like to welcome you to Bracton Law Society and hope you have a fantastic year with us!
All the best,
